  How to Adjust Your Subwoofer Amplifier in Your Car:
  Once you've connected your subwoofer amplifier in your car, it's important to adjust it properly if you want to get the best sound from your subwoofer. This crucial step doesn't take too long, however, and you'll be happy you did it the right way when your car system is laying down some serious bass
  Put a test CD into your car. Pick a CD that has the kind of music you'll be listening to regularly--you want to adjust your amp so that it sounds the best playing the kind of music you'll be listening to
  Turn the system volume to a moderate listening level. Then adjust the "Gain" control knob on your amplifier to zero, or all the way to the left. While listening to your music, turn the gain up slowly and listen to the sound coming from your subwoofer. When the bass becomes distorted stop increasing the gain level and back it down slightly until the sound is clean and undistorted again
  Adjust the volume up to the loudest listening level you'll use. If you have any distortion in the bass, back the gain down a little and test again. If there's no distortion when you turn up the volume, you've got it just right
  Listen to more music. While listening, adjust the "Bass Boost" control on your amplifier. Some amps have a variable knob, while others have a simple "On/Off." If the control is variable, turn the bass boost up to a level that suits you--it's simply a matter of taste--if you like more bass, keep the bass boost level high

  To select the right car subwoofer, you'll need to give some thought to the type of music you prefer to listen to and the features you'll need an audio system to have to maximize your listening pleasure. First, consider how you want the subwoofer to perform. Then compare suitable products by investigating different manufacturers and pricing rates
  Determine the size of subwoofer you need, depending on how strong you want the bass to be. The subwoofer reproduces the bass tones in music, and the larger the size of the subwoofer, the more powerful its bass-replaying capabilities are. Remember that the interior space of your car is much smaller than even the smallest room in your home, so while an 8-inch subwoofer might not blow you away in your bedroom, it will rock the windows off your car
  Select a smaller subwoofer if you want moderate but rich bass, and a larger one if you want dominating bass. The smaller car subwoofers are about 6 to 6 1/2 inches in size, while a 10- to 12-inch car subwoofer is powerful enough to wake the dead
  Choose between a tube enclosure and a box enclosure. The advantage of tube enclosures is that they have amps built right in, and they're easy to move if you want to shift the subwoofer's position.   Get a box enclosure if you want to enjoy the advantage of adding your own amplifier and prefer the freedom of choosing your own brand of subwoofer to case in the enclosure. Tube enclosures don't give you this option
  Select a subwoofer that's made from a durable but inexpensive polymer, such as polypropylene. The most inexpensive car subwoofers are built primarily from paper, which can suffice but isn't very durable
  Keep in mind that you'll improve your sound quality by layering the subwoofer components and allowing ample space to mount the unit. The amount of space you have in your trunk (or wherever you want to mount it) is a key consideration when choosing a subwoofer
  Learn more about the brands that provide so-called "clean bass" versus so-called "ghetto bass." Clean bass features less power but generally higher sound quality, and manufacturers like Infinity, Audiobahn, Nakamichi, Macintosh and Blaupunkt specialize in clean bass units. Ghetto bass is rougher in sound quality but more powerful. RMS and Sony are two well-known manufacturers of ghetto bass subwoofers
